A - Category
A1-subcategoryThe engine power in under 11kW, the engine displacement does not exceed 125 cm3. The training motorbike must have a displacement of 75-125 cm3 (during the practical riding lessons and at the ARK exam).
The minimal age for starting the A1-category practical lessons is 15,5 years.
The minimal age for passing the A1-license exams at the ARK is 16 years.
The A1-category training is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part consists of 26 lessons (45 minutes each). The practical part consists of 12 lessons (45 minutes each).
A2-categoryThe engine power is over 11 kW but under 25 kW; the engine displacement is over 125 cm3 (during the practical riding lessons and at the ARK exam).
The minimal age for starting the A2-category practical lessons is 17,5 years.
The minimal age for passing the A2-license exams at the ARK is 18 years.
The A2-category training is divided into two parts: the theoretical and the practical. The theoretical part consists of 26 lessons (45 minutes each), or 10 lessons on the condition of being a holder of a valid Estonian driver’s license of any other category. The practical part consists of 12 lessons (45 minutes each).


A-categoryThe engine power is over 25 kW; the engine displacement is over 125 cm3 (the engine power should be 35kW or more during the practical riding lessons and at the ARK exam).
The minimal age for passing the A-category license exams at the ARK is 21 year.
The A-category training is divided into two parts: the theoretical and the practical. The theoretical part consists of 26 lessons (45 minutes each), or 10 lessons on the condition of being a holder of a valid Estonian driver’s license of any other category. The practical part consists of 12 lessons (45 minutes each).



At the end of the training course one needs to pass the preliminary theory and driving (at the training ground and in the city) exams. After passing both exams one is given the certificate of training course completion. The holder of such certificate is valid for passing the A-category exams at ARK (the Estonian Department of Motor Vehicles).
